Frequently Asked Questions

do you have a neck or back pain you are dealing with?

How much care will I need?2023-04-05T16:29:49-04:00

This is a difficult question to answer since every patient presents with a unique situation. The main factors determining how much care you need are individual recovery ability, treatment goals, age, severity of the condition, length of the condition, occupation, activities of daily living, and adherence to treatment and rehabilitation protocols. Treatment typically ranges from 4-6 visits over the course of 2-3 weeks.

What can I expect on my first visit?2023-04-05T16:30:50-04:00

The initial visit includes a history, examination, diagnosis, and treatment and usually lasts 45 minutes. Subsequent treatments typically last 20 minutes. Additional information about your first visit is located under the new patients page. Finally, you can save time spent in the office by verifying your insurance coverage and filling out the new patient forms prior to entering the office.

Do you accept insurance?2023-04-05T16:34:44-04:00

We participate with Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Plans.  We suggest all patients contact their insurance company regarding specific insurance plan coverage. An insurance verification checklist is located here.

For patients without insurance:

  • First time treatment (includes exam and treatment) – $120
  • Follow-up treatments – $60/visit
What is the benefit of orthotics?2023-04-05T16:35:26-04:00

Poor stability and structural support of the foot during walking, running, or standing may result in knee pain, plantar fasciitis, shin splints, ITB syndrome, hip pain, and low back pain.  Active Performance Chiropractic offers custom-made orthotics specifically engineered to provide structural support to the lower extremity.

What are the main components of an injury and how are they treated?2023-03-08T21:13:10-05:00

The body is a dynamic, interrelated system which must function properly for athletic performance and normal activities of daily living. Injuries typically have components of soft tissue dysfunction, joint dysfunction, and movement pattern dysfunctions. All components of the injury are equally important and must be assessed and addressed to fully resolve the condition.

  • Soft-Tissue Dysfunction – Active Release Techniques®
  • Joint Dysfunction – Chiropractic Manipulation Therapy
  • Movement Pattern Dysfunction – Rehabilitative Exercise
How do overuse injuries occur?2023-03-08T21:12:21-05:00

Overuse injuries can result from repetitive athletic movements (running, swimming, weightlifting, golfing), repetitive occupational demands, poor posture, or unresolved past injuries. Chronic soft-tissue stress (micro-trauma) can cause your body to produce tough, dense, scar tissue that alters normal movement patterns and joint function. Injuries can manifest as a loss of strength, pain, and decreased range of motion. If a nerve becomes entrapped numbness, weakness, and tingling can result.

Why do I need rehabilitative exercise?2023-03-08T21:11:42-05:00

Properly prescribed rehabilitative exercise will compliment your treatment and reduce the likelihood of the condition returning by optimizing strength and stability, flexibility of the soft-tissue structures, and mobility of the joints.

What is an adjustment (Chiropractic Manipulation Therapy)?2023-03-08T21:11:27-05:00

An adjustment or manipulation is the act of placing a gentle force through a restricted joint to restore normal motion and function to that joint. An adjustment creates a vacuum within the joint causing some of the dissolved gasses in the synovial fluid to come out of solution and form a gas bubble. This creates the audible “cracking” or popping sound typically heard with an adjustment.

What is Chiropractic?2023-03-08T21:11:08-05:00

Chiropractic literally means “done by hand” and is a manual technique designed to restore optimal function to the joints of the body.

What is Active Release Technique® (ART®)?2023-03-08T21:10:46-05:00

ART® is a soft-tissue technique that focuses on restoring the integrity of individual muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves. Many conditions are the result of scar tissue accumulation due to acute injuries, chronic postures, or repetitive-use conditions. Problems arise when the scar tissue accumulation is excessive and results in dysfunction. An ART® treatment is designed to break down the restrictive scar tissue and allow normal function and motion of the soft-tissue structures.
